I Want to be Fit, but I Hate to Exercise!

Have you said or thought these words before? I know I have…I can’t tell you how many times. We all know that exercise is good for us, and, given my not-so-wonderful gene combinations, I will probably not be able to recover my coveted, healthiest body weight unless I do at least some moderate exercise.

I have that yo-yo pattern. I start, I stop. I start, I stop. Right now, I have a free membership to my local gym. Strangely enough, I am almost enjoying going and doing what I call my “bunny” workouts two or three times a week. While it’s not much, it is enough to get my heart-rate in the aerobic range. I am very proud of that!

My excuse in the last years for not exercising is that I have a years-old knee injury and it is at risk for re-injury if I push too hard. That’s the thing with “reasons” like this – there is some truth in them, even though they are still rationalizing and keeping us from realizing our potential.

Well, I have a solution for those of us who really don’t like to exercise. DO SOMETHING PHYSICAL THAT YOU ENJOY DOING! LOL!

For me, that is dancing – ballroom and Latin style. Yes, that can be quite the aerobic exercise. As a kid, I used to enjoy playing hopscotch, I jumped rope, including double Dutch, I rode my bike, and I loved to roller skate. I ran in relay races.

What happened to me? I’m not sure!

Every once in a while, it is good to do a “balance” check. Am I eating foods that are healthy for me? Am I taking time for recreation? Do I spend enough time with friends?

Answer yourself honestly and make a plan to get healthier.
